How can uncertainty quantification support safer and more robust hydrogen-powered aviation technologies?
This was one of the key questions brought by the DEMOQUAS Coordination Team from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) to ASME Turbo Expo 2026, held in Milan, Italy: one of the key international events for the turbomachinery, propulsion and energy systems community.
The event’s theme, “Beyond Resilience – Power and Propulsion Systems for a Fast-Changing World”, strongly resonated with the mission of DEMOQUAS: supporting the development of safer, more robust and uncertainty-aware aviation technologies.
During the conference, two DEMOQUAS-related technical papers were presented:
🔹Uncertainty driven framework for cryogenic hydrogen tank sizing in regional aircraft applications, a collaboration between AUTH, Imperial College London (ICL) and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.
🔹Advancing safety and robustness of thermal management architectures for future hydrogen propulsion, a collaboration between AUTH and ICL.
These contributions reflect the project’s work on bringing Uncertainty Quantification closer to real engineering challenges: from cryogenic hydrogen tank sizing to thermal management architectures for future hydrogen-powered propulsion.
