Last month, the European Commission signed a landmark agreement with EUROCONTROL to strengthen cooperation in support of EU climate and environmental policies.
This strategic partnership will:
🔹 Enhance the monitoring of non-CO₂ aviation effects, including contrail formation and NOₓ emissions
🔹 Support data-driven policymaking for a greener and more efficient airspace
🔹 Reinforce the EU’s ambition for climate-neutral aviation by 2050
These developments align closely with the work of the DEMOQUAS project, which is actively integrating uncertainty quantification into the modeling of aircraft operations and environmental impact. Understanding the variability in NOₓ emissions and contrail formation is crucial to designing operational strategies and aircraft systems that truly reduce aviation’s climate footprint.
By combining technical innovation with policy collaboration, Europe is taking meaningful steps toward a climate-resilient air transport system: an essential shift to ensure that the next generation of aircraft is sustainable, safe and certifiable.
